Just to show my ignorance on the topic... is there any advantage to having Webers versus Solex on a stock 912? I have heard that the Solex is a better carb, but if one wishes to go with a big bore kit, the Webers are required... is this pretty much the consensus, or have I misinterpreted what I have read? I'm still pretty new to the 912 world, so I have LOTS of questions. Electronic ignition is my next topic.......any help is appreciated. Drew67

Solexes are great, even for a big bore engine. But, they are expensive, hard to work on, and when they where out the cheapest fix is a new set of webers. If you have a good set of solexes, I would use them as they are wonderful when working properly. As for electronic ignition, there is none of that inside my engine compartment!

Recommend you take a look at 912registry.com. They have some very good articles that discuss your very topic - input from owners answering a question of the month.

Ok... thanks for the replies...I have a couple of pairs of Solex's, so I will probably stick with them for now...I WOULD, however, like to investigate the electronic ignition...something about changing points about every three or four weeks reminds me of my mis-spent youth....
