				 | 2000 rpm tick over
1969 Coupe. When warm the stationary tick over is 2000rpm, which is alittle high. Is this common, or can I get to the problem. Also I wanted to know your opinions on fuel octane levels. Is 92 good enough?

Warm/hot idle speed should be about 850-950 rpm (about 900). I have a '061' distributor which has both mechanical and vaccum advance with split-shaft Solex carbs. Also on our '69 there is a device attached to the throttle linkage (I think it's called an idle compensatory) that is suppose to keep the idle at 1500-2000 rpm for a few seconds as the engine/car decelerated from 2000+ rpm. It's a smog thing. On my '69, it is mount right on the fan housing, left side above oil filter canister. It has 1 or 2 wires attached to it and a vaccum hose from a "T". The "T" connects vaccum hoses from the left and right rear carbs manifold plates (riser with two fittings). Things that I found that made my idle not right: 1. Vaccum hoses not connected properly. There is a top set and bottom set. I'll check to see which set goes to where and let you know. 2. Idle compensatory needs adjustment. 3. Spring(s) in the mechanical advance in the distributor was broken (this happened to me). I hope this helps. Jones Low 69-912 | ||
