I have been working to restore my 66 912 for over a year now and after having just got back my new 5-speed trans and I as I grind out the engine compartment for some paint and soundproofing, it has come to my attention that I do not have a key for my car. I did mind you but that was a year ago. My key was stolen along with all my others and my spare is utterly lost. Otherthan hotwireing my car when I want to drive it or spending $300 dollars for a new ignitition(let alone door locks), is there anyway I can get a key from porsche factory, or the ignition pattern itself. Has anyone had this problem who can help me out? Thanx

Check with a good locksmith in your area. Some of the very skilled locksmiths can decipher the lock pin combinations and make a new key without replacing or rekeying all your locks.

Hi - Sorry to hear about your problem. If I remember correctly, a locksmith in Pullman, Washington, circa 1990, indicated he would break into (down the door) my Subaru wagon for $10 or make me a new key for $30. Inflation will certainly be an issue today, but I don't believe all locksmiths will charge a ton to make the key.
I can help you with key blanks. I found a box awhile ago with old blanks for our 912 but everyone bought them up right away. I contact a lot of locksmith before I found that first box, and now they call me once in awhile. I now have a second box of them - same original shape, work fine but no "P" script (haven't seen those in years) - and $7 each covers my costs. Email me if you need a couple once a locksmith makes your master key. Scott 69 912 #3078 - bahama yellow like Jones Low ![]() 67 912 all over the garage - need parts? |

Also, once you get a key cut for that ignition if it's like mine it won't operate the doors or glovebox, of course they're all different due to changes over theyears.
Here's a good article I have yet to put to use, just no time yet..... http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/mult_lock_rekey/mult_lock_rekey.htm Scot '67 912 |
