Post How do i pull my starter?

HOW?! how do i do it on my 912e? does the engine need to drop? i can get to one of the two bolts...it appears to be a hex bolt....its the one closets to to bottom of the car...what about that top one? i dont see how i can GUESS what it is...it looks difficult enough to even reach with an extension but my haynes manual does tell me the size? whats the procedure on this, i hope i dont have to pull the motor/tranny!

The starter comes out with the engine in place. The bottom nut is attached to a stud which comes out of the transaxle case; the top nut/bolt is just one of the four which hold the engine to the trans. Everything's in tight spaces, but it does come out. Don't forget to disconnect your battery.

Mr. Bowen is absolutly right. I just thought I would add some tips having done this starter procedure more than once. This will go quicker with a special "allen wrench" socket size 8mm. Yes, you will need a long extension (or a few short ones joined together). Also, when reaching in for that top bolt, lay under the starter side (passenger side?) and reach over the tranny with your left hand. Also, as Mr. Bowen mentioned one of those bolts goes right through to the other side so, you might want to have someone hold the "nut" viewed from the engine compartment when you take the bolt out from underneath the car. Or you
could just use vise grips.
