I just tried the heater out for the first time since the motor was rebuilt in my '69 912. NO HEAT! I made sure that the flapper boxes are working properly along with the gates. Everything closes when I pull back the heater control lever. When the car is at operating temps, it blows ice cold. All the controls on the dash work fine. What gives? Any suggestions? It getting cold here in Michigan. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,
When you say gates are you referring to the valves that are mounted to the undercarriage? These units have a rotary valve. If the three flaps on the heater tin are working and the rotary valves are working you must have a blockage in the rocker. Of course it could just be that the heater sucks by design. Still, I have used mine in the snow and it will work eventually. You have to keep the engine speed up though since the 68 and earlier cars have no auxiliary fan. Good Luck, JMB.... |
