My 912

Hi guys, finally got to take some pictures of my 912. I had been waiting for a long time to introduce it to you guys and girls. My 1968 912. Let me tell you the story behind it. Ever since I was young, I mean like 9 years old, I wanted a Porsche. I grew up collecting all the Hotwheels Porsche I could get my hands on and then I turned 15. About a month before my birthday my father and I had been looking for a not too expensive Porshce, for me of course. I do not come from a rich family in fact I come from a family who is in the middle. So I would look online and would not find anything. By this time I was thinking either 944, 924, or maybe, 928. My father and brothers being hotrod junkies both were intrigued by the V8 powered 928. But I was always dazzled by the looks of the 911. Be it new or old I love the cars. SO when I saw the 912 I was like, "Wait a minute, this is a 911 with a smaller motor, and.......a cheaper price. So of course I ended up with my beautiful 68. I would go to my local Circle K and would buy the European AutoTrader magazine every thursday. Every thursday because that is when they would stock up. So after some phone calls and what not, I came across an ad with my soon to be car. It said the following "1968 PORSCHE 912-4spd, classic, ready for restoration, 2,200 obo, call (555) 555-5555". I called and soon traveled 150 miles with my father to go check this car out. That day we drove the 912 home. I was so happy that day, and I thanked my father so very much. I remember the stupid grin I was making as we were driving home that day. So a few months later I still own my 912 am very happy with it and hope never to have to part with it. Here is a picture of it and hope you guys can tell me what it is you think. Oh and by the way I'm 15 years old.

Congratulations! Now don't sell it, just save your $, and bit by bit it'll be a keeper (if not already). If you get over to Yuma, email ahead & stop by. Scott, 69 912 #3078

I thought I was the only teenager with a 912!
(I'm 18, had mine since I was 14).

Sure beats the rice.

You'll learn to live on rice once you get into college!

And after years of eating top ramen noodles and spagetti as you get through school, you'll graduate and make enough you can afford your toys

Some rice isn't so bad - my dad's 94 Mazda Rx-7 comes to mind. I've actually kicked around the idea of selling the 912 and getting a Subaru WRX. Probably won't happen, though.

Just as well. Lots of blood, sweat, tears, and $ in the 912.

Rice is japanese cars, like Honda, which have been lowered, have those huge spoilers, 50 inch subwoofers, 30 inch rims sticking out 10 inches past the fender, decals galore, clear turn signal lenses and fake zenon lights, huge 1.6L four banger, seats reclined all the way back, no back seats since the subwoofers are there, 20 inch exhaust pipes and of course we can't forget ground effects. Oh, did I mention an automatic transmision (don't know how to shift)

If I forgot anything, please add to the list!

Welcome to the club.

It's damn good to see younger guys getting into Porsches-cars they were designed from the start as sports cars, not economy passenger cars that are trying to be something they're not...

It looks like you've got a nice, clean 912 there-be sure to give it lots of TLC and resist the urge to race rice.

My 912 wasn't quite so nice when I saved it from the junkyard..check out the details at my website: http://www.geocities.com/the912guy

To add to Josh's rice description...PVC roll cages, UFO lights under the car, flames out the exhaust pipe, non-functional rear wings so big that you can't see out the back window...some fine examples:
