I purchased new shock things to hold up my front lid (1969 - 912) and I just installed them today. They do NOT hold the lid open. Is this just my car ? Poor shocks? or is this a commen problem ? Guess I better not throw away the wodden stick, quite yet.

If its cold they wont hold. If you have the bra on, they won't hold. Return them and buy the extra heavy duty, lifetime warrenty struts, or carry a PVC pipe like I did (had new struts too, didn't hold)

Josh is right on the money. The stock shocks will barely hold a hood up in warm weather, much less anything below 70 degrees. I put the heavy duty struts on my '86 Carrera, but I would be curious is you could take one of your old struts to the local auto parts store and see if they have any struts that match up for less money.

What gives with the new front hood shocks? I purchased new ones too a few years back and within a year they were acting very old and not able to hold up the hood. Are the heavy duty ones any better? Lucky I kept my wooden hood stick.

I installed the hood shocks offered by Peformance Products, and they work perfectly. No droop, and they have held the front and rear decklid up for weeks (yes, weeks) at a time while repairs have gone on.

I bought hood shocks from Mesa Performance
www.mesaperformance.com and have had no trouble at all with them. |
