Hi guys, just wanted to say hi as I am new to the forum. My name is Mike from NYC and I have a 65 912 in Irish green. I just installed a really sweet Maestro massaged engine (1720 9.2 to 1 CR.) The site is great and I hope to be on often. One quick question,on a 65 should there be aluminum trim along the entire lower portion of the dash? My dash is matte black, I'm looking to make her right. Once again, great board. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the board. We are growing! The early 912's had painted dash boards that matched the exterior colour. A great book to buy is "The 911 & 912 Porsche, A Restorers Guide to Authenticity" by Dr. B. Johnson. I think that you can buy it from the 912 Registry Site: http://www.912registry.org/home.htm Post some pictures when you get a chance. ------------------ Adam White 68 912 Coupe |

Yep that's me, Brooklyn born and raised. The engine is absolutley gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!! And it runs like silk. The message board seems like a great resource with really nice guys. Hey, the Maestro's a pretty cool guy, I've been reading his stuff since the early 80s when I had a 64 356C. I'll post some pics as soon as I can. I'm still trying to sort out lighting problems and little items but in general shes pretty much together. I'm just baffled by the dash question, whether or not it has the aluminum bottom or if it is painted....I guess that is part of the fun of a new ride.

Subsequent to reading the posts, I was wondering if the Maestro does work for the 912E? I've heard nothing but great things about this guy and although I've visited the web site, I'm still not certain if he works on 912E's or not? Thanks for opportunity to ask ... by the way Mike, Congratulations on the 912, & I also wish you many happy miles of driving ... Rich G. in Western Pa.

Hey Rich, give Jake Raby a call, he's the 912E (type 4) engine man. Look him up at www.aircooledtechnology.com, he is a builder of fantastic engines and a nice guy.
Well Craig, it goes like this, since I was a kid I have always worshipped Porsches. I remember a guy down my block having a 67 911 in Irish green and the image of that car has never left my mind. So in 1981 I bought a 356C, sold it after my first child was born and bought a house. When the opportunity to buy my 912 came along for $2000 I jumped at it. It came with 2 engines , was in green and had NO RUST! and decent paint. I figured it was time to go for the gusto and called the Maestro (whom I have read since the early 80's). I have finally been able to afford the car I want, I would rather have a 912 than a 911 for the idea of the "transition" between a 356 and 911. Sorry for the long speech but I'm still a kid at 46. As far as the Dodgers are concerned, we in Brooklyn still feel that they abandoned us! They were "Da Bums" and really loved. But alas I grew up lovin the Yankees. And don't bring up the World Series!! ------------------ Mike Serrone 65 912 [This message has been edited by NY65912 (edited 11-07-2001).] [This message has been edited by NY65912 (edited 11-07-2001).] |

Mike,
Thanks for the information on Jake Raby regarding the 912E. After reading your latest post on age & love affair with Porsche, I needed to add the following ... I got you by a couple of years (I'm 51) and fell in love with Porsche during the 356 days also. My job takes me to Germany quite often, and I've made many friends with Porsche drivers over there. I got the 912E a few years back and my wife and I enjoy it very much. My daily drive is a 2000 GTI VR6, and Susie has a Cherokee (both are nice during the WPA Winters). The 'E' runs great (134K), but I'm starting to plan on engine rebuild. I'll give Raby a call and again thank you ....... Rich |
