Question Engine Trans Pull

Just bought M.E.'s 67 Coupe and am pulling the Engine and Trans for trans rebuild and to replace the floor pans. I've purchased a couple of manuals but they haven't arrived yet though I do have the orange colored 912 handbook. My question is in regards to the rear half axles. I've unbolted the driver's side from the flange but find it will not clear to pull away. Probably a dumb question but what gives? The Handbook leads me to pulling the rear control arms which seems excessive. I'm probably the most dangerous type around. A VW mechanic messing with a Porsche for the first time. Thanks for any help

It should seperate, clear and drop down, there are 2 alignment pins in the CV, Try turning it a bit, you may just have it at a point in the joint where it will not move away from the flange.
