What comes in a "caliper rebuild kit"?
A very quick question: Do the little rubber O-rings between the two caliper halves come in the caliper rebuild kit?
If not, does anyone know if these are available separately, or what I can get to replace these? Thanks, G |
No they dont, did you already take it apart? I was told to never split a caliper, maybe because those O-rings are not available?

Yeah, I split it apart. I had some spacers made to run these with vented rotors. So far so good, but I need a second set of O-rings. I'm sure I can find something to fit it somewhere. Thanks for answering my question!

Griznant,
I would be very curious to see some pics of the caliper halves split, and the spacers you have. You are a brave man! Morrie |
I'll see if I can take some pictures. From what I understand, the factory didn't do anything very different from this, and I've seen it done on a 914 before.
I have access to some pretty state-of-the-art model making equipment, so creating a Pro-E file, and sending it to the CNC mill was no big deal. Turned them out in no time. I'll work on the pictures. So far, I've got them all put back together (minus O-rings) to check fit, and they work like a charm. Now, if they hold fluid is another matter entirely. :) Later, G |
OK, I loaded up some pictures of my caliper modification. So far so good, and everything is up and fits. Now, to finish the front suspension, bleed the brakes, and see how it works.
I'm not sure if the rubber O-rings I got are going to like brake fluid or not. I had a hard time finding something that would work, and then putting it in place. If it starts to leak, I'll have to source something different. I am still using the stock ones on the other side of the adapter so there are basically 4 O-rings in each caliper (which doubles the potential for leaks, I know). measure your o-rings, then compare to what mcmaster-carr has to offer...
