thanks, this guy PMed me and offered gauges from a 72 911T.. i know they are different but will they fit in mine now? how hard are they to install? i am calling will first thing tomorrow. anyone ever had seats recovered? how much does that run and can i do it myself with one of those kits on ebay? thanks.

Hoffman912 07-07-2004 10:24 PM

prob with the ebay kit is that its just a new seat cover.. wont give support. not worth it unless you have your seats completely refurbished. if yuo dont care about originality id go with some newer seats from a 944 or 911.

they're easy to install...but the tach is calibrated for 6 pulses instead of 4. (it'll read 33% low) and you get cool other stuff like oil temp I think...

so where can i get newer gauges for a 69?

jpamental 07-08-2004 07:36 AM

Check with Dan Pechtel at Cars Inc (http://www.carsincnj.com) - I got a nice working speedo/odo guage for a very reasonable price... as well as a lot of other stuff that has all been shipped quickly and turned out to be in excellent condition. He's a great source for hard-to-find used but good quality parts.

do door panels from a 69 911 fit a 69 912?

Hoffman912 07-09-2004 09:59 AM

yes. everything on the body of a 69-73 911 will fit on a 69 912.. heck anything on almost any year 911 up through the 80s will fit.

drexel912 07-09-2004 01:49 PM

even the exhaust and dash or just interior parts?

drexel912 07-09-2004 03:03 PM

wow, it turns out i know next to nothing right now... thanks for all your help guys.

NEW question... how do i tell if i have the US or the European heater system?

drexel912 07-09-2004 03:24 PM

anyone know anything about the sebring exhaust?

Hoffman912 07-09-2004 11:35 PM

sebring is for a 912e or a 914. wont work on a 912

911 engine parts will not fit. interior and body will.

drexel912 07-10-2004 08:53 AM

so who makes a muffler for the 912?

drexel912 07-10-2004 08:54 AM

a quiet one

jac912 07-11-2004 03:29 AM

I Think after you get the valves adjusted properly, maybe other head work, you'll have it a lot quieter. Although my '67 ran okay it would get real (as loud as a straight pipe HD hog ) LOUD when warmed up. Engine was rebuilt including heads shaved and now even with original muffler it is as quiet as any air cooled basket of bolts.

drexel912 07-11-2004 08:14 AM

well it's quiet when it idles and relatively quiet in the lower RPMS, it's just got that sport pipe that is made to be loud and i prefer something that is a little less like a hot rod.

Hoffman912 07-11-2004 09:35 AM

stock muffler. its the quietest muffler you can get for these cars. these cars are pretty loud regardless though.

drexel912 07-11-2004 02:57 PM

thanks harry... who carries the stock muffler?

Hoffman912 07-11-2004 06:58 PM

Classic Speed and Parts (CSP) at 626-445-0108. ask for will pringle. hes a good, honest guy, will tell it like it is whether you want to hear it or not, and he has lots of great parts. very friendly.. treats you like a person, not just another $$. he will set you up. not a better parts supplier out there

jpamental 07-12-2004 08:08 AM

I have a Bursch on mine - it's a lot less expensive, and really isn't that much louder (I think). It's a little throatier, but a lot of the noise is more a function of the engine running properly and idling at the right level rather than the muffler choice between stock and the Bursch one (I think you're looking at $400 plus for the stock type and only around $240 for the Bursch).

drexel912 07-12-2004 09:01 AM

so if i insulate the engine with one of those kits i should be ok with a bursch ?
