Brake lights stopped working - where is trigger?
67 912 - I moved the mats around looking for rust (none) and now my rear brake lights do not work when I depress the brake pedal. My mechanic is away for two weeks, but by phone he said I should just fix the trigger under the plywood. So I look behind the pywood and don't see anything.
Help appreciated - can't drive without brake lights. |

Under the lower portion of your brake pedal if memory serves me right there should be two mounting screws on either side of the housing on the top of the housing are two stake on (push on -flat) wire connectors and a threaded connector with a nut. A small lever protrudes out of the side "trigger". See if you accidently pulled one of the wires off while you were checking earlier.

Yours has to be on the master cylinder then, it could either be a two or a three prong connector. Go to the 911 Technical forum here at Pelican and do a search for 'brake light switch' it will turn up plenty of pages of comments and pictures to show you where you need to check.

Brake switch
At least on the '68, there is a switch that mounts on the pedal assembly. Behind the pedal, near the bushings if I remember correctly. Costs about $70 new, so you'll know it when you find it (most local shops can get one same-day if you're in town). I seem to remember that pre-68 may have a switch mounted elsewhere - if so, I guess you can disregard this message.

You can use just about any meter or elec. testing device to see if there's opened/closed circuit. It's just an on/off switch on an adjustable mount.
