Gasoline Sending Unit Removal

I'm embarrassed even asking this one. But, better to ask than break something ....

My gas guage is not working correctly. I suspect it's the sending unit. I know how to remove the sending unit, but I am having difficulty removing the connector from the sending unit itself. It feels permanantly fixed. Any tricks? Thanks in advance.

It should pull straight up, there is no trick to it, maybe its so corroded and thats why it wont work? Sometimes I have seen undercoating around that area that will kind of glue the things down. Just work it back and fourth with a pair of screwdrivers?
