Which paint for steel wheels?

Guys,
I am refinishing the steel wheels on my 69 912. If anybody has done this before, could I ask what brand, color and/or part number of rattle can paint comes closest to matching the original color?
Thanks,
John. johnandmarsha@fuse.net

If you've took them back to bare metal wouldn't it be best getting them powder coated rather than aerosoled?

Just a thought, sorry I can't help on the colour

Agreed on the powder coat issue. I talked with my friendly stripper, who also does powder coating. None of his three colors of silver are bright enough. So I am looking at another powder coater but at the same time preparing for option B if I have to rattle can.
Thanks for the reply.

several have had theirs powdercoated in mercedes silver, and they look really good. not exactly a bright flashy silver, but pretty close to correct for the painted steel wheels as opposed to chrome.

last time i talked to my friendly stripper, she asked if i wanted a lap dance. i dont know what clubs you go to, but a stripper who knows powdercoating has to be ok in my book

I think powdercoating is expensive and overkill for non-marine applications.

Eastwood's "Detail Silver" product code 100004 Z is a very close match to the original Porsche steel wheel color and it's only $10 a can. http://www.eastwoodco.com

Daryl,
Thanks for the response. As it works out, I got a local Porsche shop guy who says that he can match the color and paint 5 wheels for 25 bucks. I have already had the wheels chemically stripped and then I painted them with rattle can acid etching primer. I'm a little apprehensive but for 25 bucks, it seems like a reasonable experiment.
Come to think of it, I might have used the Eastwood paint that you mentioned to paint a set of Cookie Cutters a couple years ago. Thanks for reminding me. At my advanced age, some times my mind turns to mush.
