912e Backfire Valve
Hello,
I'm the happy owner of the 912E 9126001067 imported from California. The car is running very well after a gearbox overhaul and an engine rebuild by Ahnendorp - Germany All obsolete "California emission control " stuff was removed as we don't need it, but I also noticed that the Backfire valve was " cut off " and all hoses are blinded.(picture) Is there anybody who can tell me if I really need that valve, does it has something to do with the " California rules" stuff ???? Yvanhoe:
I ran my 912E between smog checks (I'm in California) with the deceleration valve blocked and had no problems at all. The valve is really there to prevent an overly rich mixture during deceleration. I realize they're different systems, but one of my manuals lists that valve for the 914 "D" Jetronic system as "US only." Bottom line is: If your car runs well with no backfiring/spitting on deceleration, you're okay without it. The only one worth keeping is the EGR which lowers combustion temperatures on acceleration and doesn't cost much, if anything, in HP. JMO Good luck, Bill. |

Thanks for your reply, Bill
The EGR is still present, as I told before it is a very nice car but totally unknown in Belgium, there should be less than 10 in our country. Here's a picture of my beauty !

Great looking car....they're not too well known here either. Infact, when I first had to go to "test-only" (the CA smog test for just about everything that's fun to drive) the "expert" was testing my car as a 76 911S & told me my ignition timing was way off & that someone had put in the wrong distributor. Guess counting plug wires was beyond his scope.
Good luck, Bill |
