Engine # 912

Hi Folks
I have some question regarding 912 Engine # .
I have a 67 Softwindow Targa, the Engine # is 832243 and the number on the Cankcase is 904 and not 912 like it has to be somebody has any clue what kind of engine this is ?

i have Problems with the german TUV to get the Car registered with this engine they say that this engine with the 904 # on it is a 2 ,0 ltr with around 130 HP . Is this right ???

Thanks
Kasi

Well, I don't want to sound like an idiot, but if it's got 6 cylinders it would be a 2 liter, 130HP engine from an early 911, not a 912 engine.

BUT - I'm assuming you would be able to count the spark plug wires based on the posts of yours I've read over the years. The engine number you provided should be a '66 912 engine (as per Dr. Johnson's book). Not sure about the '904' number. Can you post any pics?

Good luck-

Jason

Thanks for the answer !!
It is a 4 cylinder engine the ony strange thing is the 904 number on the case .
Nobody knows what kind of engine it is and how many HP it realy has , this is important to get german registartion they want to know the output and ccm of this engine because for them it is another typ of engine because it has not the 912 # on it ,

So do you have any pics? If it's a typical 912 engine case, I don't know of any piston/cylinder set that goes over about 1750cc - but admittedly my knowledge is not that extensive. Unfortunately it's also tough to tell much about the displacement without pulling the heads and measuring stuff.

It'd be pretty cool if it was some sort of factory special engine, but I just don't know enough of the history of any factory variants.

Maybe worth posting on the http://www.912bbs.org website (but again, pictures are really helpful in figuring stuff out). Where is that 904 stamped? On one of the case halves, or the 3rd piece on the back of the engine?

Jason
