a 912 on 9/12 ??? Engine question
Hi guys,
I might have bought my first 912 today, yes, on 9/12 - how's that for the Porsche Gods smiling on me... Actually I left a deposit and will pick her up in the morning, so I will post a better picture then !! Sorry about the tease! ![]() Question: The motor had a weird unexpected model number... 616/10 - unless I was so giddy I imagined it, but for sure not 616/40 like I expected! What on earth is that ? could it be an industrial motor conversion ? Honestly I don't care too much because it definitely pulled like a 912 motor (I had one in my 356 before) and the car was a good deal overall, even with no engine.. Other oddity: the PPO, not the PO, carved 2 sets of louvers in the rear panel, on each side of the car's plate !! Weird, not bad looking actually, but kinda useless since this is shielded from the engine compartment anyway ! ;-) Pics tomorrow... And please let me know what the hell that motor might be ? PS: Yes, that front valence has to go - and thos emirrors too. Can I find a decent valence from any old 911 or even an S styled one (it'll fit, right?) anywhere or is this unobtainium (ebay material) now ? |

Checking the Maestro's "Little Spec Book", gives no listing for a 616/10, that I could find.
The 912 would be /36, /39 and /40. A /1 is a 356B normal and a /12 is a 356B super. Love the bumper!

I know, I have all the books as well, this seems to be an oddity ! But it runs pretty good and strong, so I am more curious than annoyed !

She's home
Nice ride home, a long list of to-dos, but overall she is sound !! I could not wait and ditched the headlights in favor of Euro ones...
![]() In no particular or der, she needs: -handbrake adjustment -Tires -Balancing -Steering check in case it's not the tires -a big can of dehumidifier for the gauges ! -Investigating remonig the electrical fuel pump and reverting to stock - A stock steering wheel and shifter, plus shift bushings - bad ! - A spare key - some cleaning of the grounds in the tail light area - maybe shocks Trivial stuff.. But I love her !! Being a 911 and 356 (ex)owner, this is the perfect symbiosis of both worlds to me ! I still want my 911 for track fun, but around town, this 912 is awesome, and that's on the old crappy tires and shocks ! any suggestion for the very fogged up gauges ? Hairdryer ? Oh, and I am an idiot, the motor is a 616/39 as it should be, I guess I totally remembered that wrong ! |
