Gearbox oil
Hi,
I have slightly worn synchros in my '67 912. Only requires double-declutching on downshifts, which I don't really mind. A bit of a problem when my girlfriend drives it though! I drained the oil a while back, a few months after I got it and put in a standard SAE 90 GL4 I think (as recommended in manual). Before that you HAD to double declutch (maybe had synthetic). Anyway, I was thinking that if that made such a difference, there must be an oil or additive now that has an even better effect. According to the net there are (eg redline ??). Somewhere else I saw recommendations of using 1/4 "GM synchromesh" oil or even putting in a little ATF. To me it seems to make sense that using for example 1/4 GM synchromesh isn't going to damage the gear sets or bearings, why should it, it's lube and pressure specs actually seem close to the SAE 90 ones. Do you think it's worth a try and if so, which option? Thanks, Clint |

If it is available try Swepco 201. Many swear by it for early Porsche transmissions, I do.
