Un-Notched Fan Belt Pulley Removal?
There's no notch (that I can see or fee) on my '67 912 Pulley halves. Has anyone had this situation and resolved it? How do you lock the pulley for removal of the 22mm nut? I need to replace the generator.

I've had them with slots that were rounded/worn to the point of being useless, but never completely sheared off. The easiest way (since you're replacing the gen. & the pulley halves) is to use an impact wrench on it, which should undo the nut. You can also hold the pulley with vice grips or attempt to file/cut in a new, temporary slot into the inner pulley. Also, you can try to get a socket on the rear nut (fan side), but at that point it's probably easier to just cut the belt and remove the entire unit and undo everything on the bench.

Thanks for the encouragement, the vise grips did the trick. I could (if I was really cheap; and am), almost salvage the old pulley. The real trick was a big breaker bar.
