Maual Transmission Conversion
I have a 1967 912 with a type iv engine and a manual transmission. Is is possible to switch to an automatic transmission (for my wife and son to drive)? If so, how much would the conversion cost (approximately)? What are the negatives?

You can do a full auto from a 411 VW (sqr back,notch,fstback). There is a 356 kit-car maker that has done this(but they use a custom frame).
The engine and trans bolt together. It shouldn't be to hard to mount the trans. If you can't do the work yourself, I couldn't put a price on this conversion. easier to teach the wife to drive a stick....the kid doesn't need to drive this car either way |
