Comments Please- What if the valves weren't adjusted in 59k miles!!!

I'm looking at a 66' 912 and the owner of the car (30 year female ownership) never had the valves adjusted. She said she put somewhere around 50k miles on it but her mechanic said he thought she put more like 15k miles on it. He seems more dependable and knowledgable but he said she never wanted the valves adjusted, even when he suggested it... She thought you had to pull the engine for it... I'm going to try to get a compression test done on it to see if it shows anything. Supposedly it runs great at 100k miles..... Something doesn't add up. She's pretty old and sounds like she may not be all there... Haven't viewed the car in person yet but will today or tomorrow. Any thoughts would be helpful. She always had everything serviced but no valve adjustments!

Well, I have a '66 912. I very much doubt the valves were never adjusted. If original, 100K mean the engine will require a top and bottom rebuild soon if not now. My suggestion is go inspect and drive it. If you like it alot, get a local and experienced 912 registry member to evaluate the car for you. Good luck! Jim

Thanks for the reply. I went and viewed the car tonight. It was a total rust bucket. The ad says the car is "Mint". I knew better than that but this thing was bad. I couldn't even get the passenger door to shut because the pans/rockers were sagging so much from rust. Two guys had to lift up on the car to get it shut..... Poor car. It's Gulf Blue too... what a shame. My search continues!
