VW Autostick in 912?

Has anyone ever successfully installed a VW Autostick in a 912? I'm curious as to what it would entail, both in terms of parts and body/chassis modification. Would the VW transmission be strong enough to handle the output of the 912 engine?

Thanks,
Ed

They will not match up. If you really want to have the pieces machined to make them match up. I hope you have deep pockets. As far as if the autostick will hold up. No one has ever done it with a 912 engine. You would be better off to use a VW engine instead of a Porsche 912. The 911 Sportomatic will not work either.

Thanks for the tips.

This sounds a bit more complicated than I expected. I guess I should keep up my search for a decent 911 Sporto if I'm ever to enjoy a two-pedal early Porsche.

Good luck, they are very rare. I have only seen two sportomatics in the last thirty years.

In the last calendar year I've had four offered for sale to me. Two of those four (both '69 Es) were bought by other people on this board, one ('73T) was sold to someone unkown, and the other ('68 Normal) was so far gone that I wonder whether anyone actually bought it. In hindsight I wonder whether those came out of the woodwork as a result of the very strong Euro earlier this year.

I sort of vented on topic in this thread: WTB longhood Sporto coupe: ISO reality check
