Fuch's

Specifically, how do you identify "real" ones?
Thank you in advance,
joe

Fuchs

I will try and post some ref pics.
Check for a small 'fox' ("Fuchs") logo on the back
Part Number 911 or 901 at the start
If you can inspect them feel the weight, the repros are usually heavier

Thanks hcarris,
I've heard reference to "hearts" also? What year did they first appear?
Again, thanks in advance

there is nothing wrong with fake fuchs rims just as long as you pay the repro price.. I have seen real nice repro's done up very well and for the money they are a great wheel... Certainly if a good nice set come up then take then you can always trade with them later..but as stated they are normaly heavy over orginal ones and the markings are not there on the back..

but looking out for orginal Fuchs are also not easy as refinishing of them causes issues with the thickness of the materail so go careful..

Fuchs

Thanks for your input 912UK.
I agree wholeheartedly as I have "fake" Fuchs on my car. They look great! I had heard so much about the "real" ones and knew nothing about them so I was just trying to educate myself.

I had a full set of fake 7" wheels on my car 912E and they looked great polished up just like the real ones but cost about 1/5th of the price...

Fake Fuchs & Real Factory Recaros

I agree 912UK, from a few feet back my Fuchs look great and I did save a ton of money to boot!
On another interesting note, I've had my '68 912 for 3 years. When I bought it the front seats were not original.....they appeared to be a sport seat of some kind. Anyway, I was selling a 356 shell several weeks ago and the person buying it wanted to take a look at my 912. When I opened the door his eyes popped out of his head. He offered my $3,500 for the seats!
He told me they were factory Recaros (he figured they were from the early 70's) and that they are super rare and almost impossible to find!
Oddly, the person I bought the car from (the 2nd owner) didn't know what she had either as she had owned the car for 18yrs. When she was trying to sell it quite a few people looked but showed no interest in the car (or the seats for that matter).
Since then I have done some research and have seen them for sale for as much as $6,000!!! (redone of course).
I must admit I felt a little foolish not knowing what I had.....but feel great now knowing I have them!
And NO they are not for sale.

personaly as some one who has some of those seats I would sell them I am going to sell mine..

The mad prices are just silly and I can seen them coming down as repro market catch on.. if seats are going for $5000-6000 the repro people know they can tool up and sell to the market that's out there. and already in the US you can by GT seats for sensible money I have BF Nurburge seats at $400 apair they look just as good and I bank $4000 for the others I had the same with a set of 4.5's on a 65 912 I bought the car for £2500 and sold the wheels for £2000 it now has it's orginal steels and the car has been treated to £2000 worth of new parts so as much as I understand keeping them I would sell them..
