Optima Battery for 912?
Somewhere on this forum, I read that the Model 41 (800cca) drops right in to 911/912/912E etc... types with no mods... anyone verify this?
Model 41 is $139.99 at Sams Club.

Could it have been the Optima Mode D51R , 9 5/16" x 5 1/16" x 8 15/16" tall ?
The original early (1965-1968) 912 battery was a 22NC (narrow) battery, which was not commonly used, not available from many manufacturers, and not a lot of cranking amps or extended years of service. The good news is that other cars used a battery with similar dimensions, like the 51 and 51R (reversed posts). A DieHard size 56 has similar dimensions as well, which I have in my '68. I had to CAREFULLY trim some bottom mounting tabs on the 56, which were not needed with the rubber strap hold-down.

As of now the Optima factory website:
