Speaker locations/options?
Hello, does anyone have suggestions for installing speakers without cutting the interior? Have seen some boxes that can be placed on the rear deck or on the floor behind the seats. Thanks for any info!

You can grab a pair of good 3-way enclosed speakers that'll fit on the rear seats while the seatbacks are in the down position. Check the mini-speakers at BestBuy (the ones for mini home theater setups.) You won't have them in an ideal location, and you won't get the same sound quality that new cars enjoy, but who cares? Also, there were aftermarket rear shelf (under the rear window) panels that included "humps" for speakers. Either solution avoids cutting.
Good luck, Bill. |

Speakers on back shelf...
P.B. Tweeks (now out of business) used to sell these back window speaker mounts. They are still available under a different maker, and can be custom built for your color interior, etc. by Moch-1 I believe. I find these a good supplement to the sound from my front door mounted speakers (it's in an E, thus door mounts were standard). Good luck! Otherwise we can relish the fine tunes provided by our 4-cylinder mechanical orchestra! Ho Ho! R/Dave L.

Hi
After many years I located a couple of 4" round speakers and you can get round plastic pods (search autoleads pod) that they sit in. As if you were going to surface mount them on the rear shelf. They will go nicely behind the rear seats. Attached to the back of the seat. If you drop the seats they are on the surface of the seat back. With the seats up the sound gets directed out from behind the vertical seat. I have been reliably informed this works, my car is in pieces at the moment. Thanks Rob 66 912 Coupe |

I have been looking at this setup. The speaker in my door panels suck and are sticking to much out and every time I close the window I hit my fingers. It also seems to me that there is no good wire routing on a 1976 912E

My '66 had a single speaker in the dash and a Blaupunkt AM-FM-SW. The door panels were original with the 356-style map pockets and no speakers. Found Blaupunkt acoustic suspension pod speakers (NLA) that would mount under the dash and attach above the foot-kick storage pockets. Didn't want to cut up the original upholstery

Since I do not have any back seat. I have also had them on the floor behind the front seats. For those that have the back seats. When they are down. You can put them under the seats tops and on top of the bottom seat and they act a little as a megaphone.

For a less-obtrusive effect, you can go with an under dash cover designed for your Porsche. I purchased one of these several years back and it solved the problem - as long as you don't have A/C in your car...
Underdash Cover 911 Speaker System the solution to unsighlty wires ! addendum: I just saw a Tweeks speaker assembly that Dave mentioned listed on eBay. Last edited by Peter T.; 11-26-2009 at 04:52 AM.. |
