912 Fuel Lines

Hi,
My 1967 912 has had a lot of fuel delivery problems. I finally need to replace the gas tank in the car becuase it's badly contaminated. Replacing the tank was not that hard, but I'm replacing all of the fuel lines as well and that is proving to be much more of a challenge. Mainly because I don't know what to replace them with. I checked and according to Porsche all 911s and 912s (except the E and S) from 65-73 should use a 6mm line running from the tank and a 7mm line running from the pumps to the carbs. My old lines were an 8mm line running from the tank to the pump and a 1/4" (6.35mm) line from the pump to the carbs. The 8mm line is what the E and S were supposed to have used. My car has Webers and I didn't know if that would be the reason for the difference in diameter or not. If anyone happens to know what size fuel lines should be used on a 912 with Webers please let me know.

Howdy,

I've had to do the same thing and have found that fuel injection hose(rubber outer) works best for the line from the tank. I use the german cloth braided outer on the rest.
You should be able to find the hose at a VW parts house. If you have no luck there, try a shop.

I had replaced all of the hose with 5/16" rubber fuel hose with no problems. Its cheap, you don't cut yourself on the fraid ends ( \did that numerous times), and you can see the leaks. I rebuilt my fuel pump AND bought an electric, all to find out that it was the braided fuel hose! Now, I wonder why the 911 would have a different size fuel line going up to the fuel pump???


On a side note, I'm still looking for a car, 944 to be exact, and finances are looking good for a February purchase, as there are a ton for sale out here in California. I know, I'm going to the dark side. But I'll be back! On the bright side it looks like I might be driving a 912 as early as Christmas!!! Its the car I was talking about before. The engine runs strong and the car is very straight. Just needs alot of TLC and TLM (tender loving money). It'll only be for a month or two, but hey, at least I can have fun while it lasts! The car is getting purchased by someone and it going to be cleaned up. Ah, the fun of early Porsches!

Unless you're a real stickler for originality, pick up a 25' coil of 3/8" aluminum fuel tubing from Jeg's or Summit Racing for about $18, cut and bend it to the size and shape you need, and never worry about it again.

One coil was enough to replace all the tubing on my '66 912 AND my '70 Bronco.
