I just started checking into this but have yet to find why I have no power to the blower on my '69. I believe it worked for a brief time when I first bought the car. So far the only place I've found power is at the relay mounted near the flasher relay. Nothing from my test light elsewhere. Where do I look?
Thanks |

I recently replaced my 69 burned out blower motor. Then I found no power at the motor. The multi prong connector from the blower motor housing goes to the Heat/Fan Control Panel mounted on the dash. From there a black & red wire go directly to the ignition switch spade connectors on the "ON" side of the switch so no power goes to the fan motor when the ignition switch is in the "OFF" position. There were two empty spade connectors on the back of my ignition switch in the right position. There is a brown ground wire from the heater control panel that should be connected to a three spade grounded connector in back of the control panel. Blower speed is regulated by selecting high, medium or slow speed which directs the power to one of two hot wire resistors located inside the blower housing. The resistors must be good for the circuit to be complete. There was no relay in the blower fan circuit. The ignition switch circuit goes to the fuse module for overload protection. RonD 69 912 Targa

I forgot to mention to check your fuses, you may have a blown fuse! RonD 69 912 Targa

Ron,
Thanks for the help. I'll check the black/red to the ignition switch. Odd thing about the fuses. In my Targa I've pulled each fuse one at a time (to identify which circuit is to blower) and the blower keeps running. Which fuse does your run off? True or False? If I pull the multi-prong connector at the blower motor and apply power to the pin where the black wire goes and ground one of the other pins will the blower run? If I was certain the blower runs, I suppose I could compare the Coupe to the Targa and trace this down. Regards, Bob |

I never had to check which fuse went to the blower motor but my guess is that there may be an in-line fuse if you pilled all fuses out of the two fuse boxes. I thought you had no power at the blower fan, how come it is running now?? Have I misunderstood you? Yes, if you connect 12 volts to the hot (black) lead in the female connector on the blower housing and ground one of the others the blower fan will get power. You need to determine which leads to power up and ground. I found it easier to disconnect the multi prong lead to the blower housing then remove the 2 screws holding the fan motor assembly to the air intake vent and check out which wires go to the fan motor then run the 12 volts to the same wire connectors on the motor itself. Good luck. Ron D

Ron,
Sorry about the confusion on the blower running. Different car. I'm working on a Coupe but I also have a Targa. Blower in the Targa works fine and I'm using it as a guide. The only black/red wire on saw on either car went to the 4-ways. no black/red on the ignition switch The Targa has power at the black wire on the blower. The Coupe does not. The wires from the fan switch are connected to a 6 pin plug. If I pull that plug and probe the sockets I get power at 4 pins in the Targa and none on the Coupe. Everything else appears fine. (fan switch, etc..) |

Where have you located a blower motor? Mine rarely works and think it needs replacing. Thanks, Mark

I bought a used blower motor & fan assembly from Jeff Wilkins, Parts Heaven, Hayward, CA 800-767-7250, e-mail: info@partsheaven.com. The price was $50.00 plus shipping. The same blower was used for many years in later 911's. Ron D

I recall that the wire harness from the blower motor housing to the control panel also contained the longer red and black wires coming out of it which I connected to the ignition switch. Do you have any wires coming our of the wire harness from the blower motor at the control panel other than those connected to the on/off-speed control switch? Ron
