I run a 1976 912E which is as far as I am aware totally stock. I have recently serviced the car replacing plugs, leads etc.
I have a problem when turning left or cornering in any left handed manner. Under slight or rapid acceleration the car hesitates on and off throughout the bend as if there is a fuel shortage or someone is turning the ignition key on and off, if I take the bend without accelerating, basically coasting around it runs fine. I have checked all electric connections in the engine bay and nothing seems to be amiss and all the HT leads are new and routed correctly. I have also removed the smog pump as they are not necessary here in the UK. Has anyone experienced this before or may be able to point me in any possible direction other than a left handed bend!?! The only other areas I have not checked or know anything about is: Alarm/imboiliser unit - 'The Ungo Box' model TL 3000!?!, looks ancient and I haven't a clue how it works or how to use it, any help or instructions would be useful. I have never seen one on a car here in the UK. Black box computer thing for the injection system - Haven't a clue Cheers Nige |

nige:I would definitely attempt to disable the alarm/anti-theft system - it might have a motion detector/disarm function interacting with the fuel pump/ignition.(The early L-Jetronic did a fine job of screwing up on its own without the added help of aftermarket items.)
Other than that, I'll throw you some areas to check, but will preface this by saying "I really don't know the answer." Make sure the fuel pump is mounted securely with absolutely clean terminals and in the proper position (mount the pump with the Neg.terminal on top. Now rotate the pump so that the Neg. terminal goes about 55deg. toward the front (tank). I may be mistaken, but these pumps might have "rollover disable" safety function built-in. I've been trying to remeber just what components operate on a horizontal plane. Has your airflow meter ever been tampered with? Sometimes owners (me incl.) have tampered with spring rates in the meter to allow faster opening (richer mixt.) If the black plastic rectangular plastic cap comes off with light pulling, suspect that area. Finally, are you absolutely sure your engine ground strap is good & clean with plenty of breathing room? Also, check air cleaner mount (large bottom side) which bolts to a riser plate & secures the entire airflow meter/intake air system. Hope this helps... Bill. |

Thanks Bill,
I am going to start off by removing the Ungo box this weekend, I never use it as I don't know how. As I was the first owner of the car here in the UK when it was imported and no instructions came with it and I have never seen one before. I have had my doubts about it for a while. I'll move on to your other suggestion after that. Thanks Nigel |

What is the deal being a 912 owner here in the UK? Can I pick up a 912 for peanuts in the UK or will I need to import? Can they survive our rainy climate? I really do not want to go the 944 route to buy a cheap runabout (no offence water coolers), I just love the shape ![]() Rob
