Rear engine bracket for VW swap

Greetings fellow enthusiast. Although somewhat of a purist, my good friend and I are currently in process of swapping a Porsche 912 engine for a VW. Many of the postings herewithin have proven exceptionally valuable in this endeavor. We are now seeking the thoughts of you, the experts, for the rear engine mount. What do you suggest/advise for the rear engine mount for this swap? Is there a simple, not so painful way to mount the VW to our 912?

All your help is greatly appreciated and will continue to be so.

Thanks,

Meanwhile, there's quite a few pics on my website...

As promised...

I tried and tried to get the images to dislay here in the forum, but geocities just doesn't remotely host graphics files well (if at all)...SO, I simply created a new page on my website with all the pics on it. Simply click on the link below and wait for the images to load (most are thumbnails, so it shouldn't take too long). I'll work on making the the thumbnails act as hyperlinks to full-size images tomorrow...

AWSOME Mr. Mcguill, cant say it enough.

How many inches apart is the back plate that attaches to the engine to the front plate that attaches to the original cross member. This will allow me to figure out the length and angle of the plate that connects them both. Also, what is the measurement from the original bottom holes of the crossmember to the top two holes of the VW engine? I think that with those two figures we should be able to duplicate this bracket design.

Thanks Mr. Mcguill.

The measurement from the lower (as installed) vertical plate that bolts directly to the VW case to the upper rear vertical plate that bolts to the transverse crosssmember is exactly 3 inches.

The sides of the bracket are paralellograms, with the long sides exactly 4 inches long, and are cut at 45 degrees to the vertical plates.

The distance from the crossmember mounting holes to the upper case mounting holes is 4 5/8" center-to-center.

The bracket is constructed of 3/16" thick steel plate.

(And the name's Clay...whenever somebody says "Mr McGuill", I figure they're either talking to my Dad..or I'm in trouble.

Great Clay, sorry about the "Mr.", just showing the due respect. The engine is a highly tweeked 1679cc.

Where did you get that engine? Or did you build it yourself? Reason being is that looks just like one of the engines at CB Performance.

Porsche Crest

Its right out of the oven. New and completely HiPo. Zero miles, were hoping it will configure nicely with the trany gearing and overall handling.

I hope you fare well on the 17th with the 66.

Hey Geo1

WOW, great looking motor !!!

As for the bracket, I thing I would try making the plate that meets the crossmember, match the factory crossmember holes. Maybe even try to use the rubber bumpers like on 68 69.

Just my $0.02

Good luck

Brett

Geo: What a great looking motor. When you get some time, please post some specifics, especially what horsepower output you estimate. Looks like a great project, especially with the price of 912 motor pieces going up.

Thks & Rgds,Thanks for the replies friends! I will definitely post some spec's on this thing once my teacher and I can tear away from the shop long enough. Of particular fun right now is deciding on the bracket design. I am leaning towards a tubular steel, my sensai is talking about a single piece steel plate. We are still figuring that out but with the dimensional specs we got from Clay, we should fare well with whatever we go with.

More to come.
