Distrubitor is - 180 out.

The distributor in a friends 69 / 912 is 180 degres out.
The etch mark on the distributor that the rotor is supposed to be facing -- is facing = at about 1 oclock.
The number one plug is at 7 oclock. I did not think it possible to fit the distrubitor shaft back down = with it 180 degrees turned. I thought the end of the shaft, was offset so as to prevent just such an occurance. Any one seen such a thing ??

Sounds like you have an 050 with the Distributor Body 180 out.
The rotor is positioned correctly. You just need to turn the distributor "body only" 180 so the rotor points at the mark which is now at 7 o'clock instead of 1 o'clock.
