End - to Points (Elect. pickup)

I want to put an end to - changing, setting & timing for my points. I contacted Pelican for a electronic system - but they do not carry any for the 912s. I have found a set at the local V.W. shop. My question is - anyone who has made the switch to elect. pick up - how do you like it? Any problems? Any recommendations, like Brand? Or, is it really even worth it. Any thoughts at all - appreciated.

I've used the Pertronix system in a couple of Porsches and found them to be reliable. The part I liked was that slight wear on the shaft, etc. has no effect with the pickup function. Set the timing and forget about it. Years ago an engineer told me that, in theory, a set of points rubbing on a distributor cam gives absolutely perfect results for only one revolution,as it's continuously wearing down on it's rub block.

I am of the old school, I guess. The porsches I had in the '60's all ran like a top as does my current '69 912. I send my car out for the big (6000 mile) tuneup & do small tuneup myself every 3000 miles. The car rarely requires more than oil change & opening the gap on the points (by eye). These cars are pretty low maintenance. I try to resist the urge to complicate something that is simple. As long as it keeps chugging along I'll leave things as is...
