No crank, no start 69 912
Hey everyone, I got some great advice on wiring to the engine of my 69 912, I put the enginein yesterday and went to start it today for the first time and had a no crank/no start...No starter click or starter engagement at all. The engine had been removed by a previous owner and I'm unsure of starter trigger wires...In the wiring harness on the driver side of the engine comaprtment there is a lone yellow wire with a connector hanging there ...its about four inches long and seemingly goes no where...THe wire is hot, I tapped it on the frame and it sparked...Any Ideas?
Thanks, Toby |

That wire can be use to start the engine when working in the engine compartment.
There are two black wires, one goes to the starter from the battery to 30 and the another goes from 30 to the B+ on the regulator. There is also a yellow wire the goes to the 50 on the starter from the ignition switch. If any one of these wires are not connected then the starter will not engage. It is probably the yellow wire that goes to the starter from the ignition. You seem to have power to the regulator for the starter or that yellow at the regulator would not be h ot. 912 wiring/starter issue
Well again, your advice has been very helpful. I looked ahead of the rear axle beam and saw the the three wires from the starter solinoid are all cut. THere are two large posts on opposing sides of the solinoid and one smaller stud off the center of the solinoid. I ran one red wire off the solinoid to the starter and the center small posted wire I ran to the yellow wire ....there does not seem to be a home for the third wire (blue) on the opposite large post...I think I made progress because I got several loud clicks from the starter solinoid but still no crank
