Fog Lights

My '68 912 has fog lights with grills but wires to them have been disconnected. (One wire hanging down from each light.) On the dash there is not a separate switch for the fog lights. Are they controlled through the headlight switch? And how do I get them operating again. Wiring diagram?
Thanks, Bill

A white wire with green stripes goes from the fog lights to the #5 fuse. The other side of #5 fuse is a white wire with yellow stripes that will go to the fog light switch in the dash by the hazard switch. The fog light switch is a push pull and does not come with the cars. It was installed when the fog lights were installed.

There was only one style for the 65-68 Porsches Hella 139, any other type would be aftermarket.

IIRC, the SWB cars used the 128 Hellas.

I'll second the SWB 128's motion.

They are both right Hella 128. I do not know why I was thinking 69.

I doubt that radio shack will have what you are looking for. There are some aftermarket Hella switches. However, you would pick them up at the Porsche type stores like Pelican, Custom and speed parts, ********s, and etc.

There are some switches on Ebay and The Samba that would work.

Found a switch on ebay that supposedly is for 912. It will be here in a few days. Meanwhile I tried to get two replacement bulbs, 12V/50W but can't find any. They fit in a socket and are pushed down and turned to secure them....just like a 1056 bulb. Does anyone know where to get them?

It helps sometimes if you have a picture of the item. There are several different 12v 50w type bulbs. The US cars used seal beams for headlights and bulbs for their fog lights. The Euro cars used a Halogen blubs. The early 356 used a 12v 50w bulb for the headlights. The after market VW folks still carry those.

There is a guy that carries all types of hard to get bulbs. Try goggling the type of bulb and you may find him. When my computer died I lost his address.

donsbulbs Welcome

You might try this place. I have never used him. However, you might find a number and call him.

Are these through-the-grill lights (round) or the bumper mounted lights (rectangularish)? May sound silly, but have you tried Pep Boys, Napa, Autozone, Wal Mart, or any other local autoparts store?

The fog lights are rectangular and mount to bumper inside. Yes, I have tried local auto parts stores but not Walmart. I think I have located a halogen bulb at bulbtown.com that will fit into the current socket. Will the additional heat generated by the halogen bulb cause any problem?
