Trouble with '66 Window Regulator
I'm working on a newly acquired '66 912 and am having trouble removing the window regulator. The outer door seals are junk and so the regulators are pretty rusty. Before I replace them I wanted to get them out and examine what I've got to work with.
I've got the inner door panel off and unbolted the regulator from inside the door, but can't seem to separate the glass from the channel it rests in. Am I missing something? I've pulled on it quite hard and the last thing I want is a broken window. In the mean time, I've doused the bottom of the window where it meets the regulator with penetrating oil in an effort to free it up. Is it pinned in place somehow or just rusted in place? Anyone else ever had this problem? |

Might be easier to remove the glass and the channel it sits in from the rest of the regulator.

I attempted to remove the whole upper window frame from the door, but it wouldn't budge. I took out two bolts in the door jam just above the latch and another two at the leading edge near the base of the windshield. I need to get a mirror inside the door and look for other bolts holding it in. I will pursue this route some more. Thanks for the reply.

The window needs to be half way up to remove and install the regulator. The frame can be removed with out removing the window. However, without the frame installed the regulator would be a ***** to remove or replace.
There are three bars that go into the door that are part of the window frame. I believe it is the two bars from the wind-wing that have bolts inside. at or near the bottom of the bars. |

Here's the tightening sequence of the frame:

I do have the window in the half way position to work at the regulator, but can't seem to separate the window from the slot that it rests in.
According to the diagram WFBowen posted, there are 4 previously unknown fasteners I need to find that hold the frame to the door. (1,2,3,8) Do you have to remove the door from the hinge to gain access to #3? I am assuming 1 and 2 come out the bottom of the door? Thanks for the diagram. I will examine the door more closely tonight and report back. |

Thanks to your help, I did finally get the frame, window and regulator out of the window. The source of the binding in the window was that some one hacked up and then welded the two arms that support the window as it moves up and down. I can't wait to see what the passenger one looks like.
