MSD Performance Ignition
I'm about to buy a second hand MSD ignition setup to fit to my 912e, its a MSD model 6200.
What's anyone's opinions of these on how, if, they improve the driving performance? Cheers Nige |

Nige: I tried (& still have on my shelf) an MSD ignition. I can't remember the model, but it's the cheaper one without rev limit, etc. The 912E requires an electronic tach adapter for the gauge to work. IMO, I didn't notice any difference in performance, etc., but it was a good, tight motor to start with. I then tried it on a 302 Ford with no noticeable difference. I'm not saying they don't work, just that (IMO) sometimes perfectly-tuned rock-stock motors can't run any better than their original specs. As you know, both of these motors are low-revvers; I think the MSD might benefit high-compr./high revving motors. A former Porsche SCCA racer friend almost had me convinced one night to pop open the finned aluminum MSD. It was his opinion that we'd find the wires going in looping back out and nothing else!
Good luck, Bill. |
