912 engine swap to type 2
Just purchased a '68 912 with a type two bus engine modified cc. Previous owner(s) mounted the engine without intermediate rear motor mounts to dampen the vibration (noise). They used the "all thread" bolt method through the former mounting location. I need to figure a method to isolate the bolt bracket from the frame.

Type II Mount
Pictures of the mounting system would help. I suspect that the motor installer used standard '68 hard mount on either side of the engine bay (rubber iso-mount was on the cross member to engine connection). If so, switching to the 911-type iso-mount that replaces the hard mount would be a solution.

all thread
My type IV has the bus rear support with the all thread. the rear support is modified to fit the (a small round pipe was welded so an all thread bolt could go through and match up woth the rear engine compartment mount. The all thread is also bent to match up. I have the egg shaped mount that the all thread goes through, then it is secured with washers and nut just as it would be with the 912 support bracket.
Send me your email and I'll send you a picture of how mine is set up. Russ ralvy@aol.com |
