steering damper

i have scoured the posts. only three in 03.... general feeling that they are replacement parts for this item. if anyone will send me one, i will do the work to find a suitable replacement or aftermarket (like a 4wd thing) that will do the job and let you all know my research. Or if you have the "specs" i can do the same research. i am surprised that there is such little interest in detail of this part. we are all supposed to have one???

Here's a portion of the parts catalog, look at #22, 901 347 501 00. I believe they were primarily installed on the 911 due to the greater weight distribution on the rear, but the original steering rack was the same for the 911 and 912. For the 912s the catalog shows a VIN sequence of >> 035 4000 and >> 045 8100. My 1966 912 has a VIN lower than that, and did not come with a damper installed, though the rack has an attachment post for it.

Both Boge and Koni used to make them, you'd have to check which manufacturers still do. Pelican shows the number above in the system.

I see #22 it looks like the male stud on the damper fits into part #2??? my 67 has the receiver for the female side (27/28) but there is not a receiver (as in #2) for the mail side (23,24,26) my guess is, that like yours mine was not equipped with a damper.

Correct, one end of the steering damper attaches to the stud on the steering rack, the other end of the damper attaches to the receiver ("bellow support" in the catalog) which moves with the tie rod. I believe the part number for #2 with receiver is 901 347 055 00, whereas the bellow support without the receiver is 901 347 056 00.
