Shift linkage "ball cup" replacement and linkage adjustment

New member w/ a brand "new" 1966 912... Short Story.... got the car home and running, then attempted to make it around the block. 1st gear was not able to be shifted into (5 speed) as it was hitting the seat. Needless to say the linkage was VERY sloppy. I replaced the shift joint with a Wevo connecter (and filled with Swepco) and now alas 1st gear can be engaged. Still the shifting is very rough with a shutter right before it engages into any gear and downshifts are impossible, additionally I get grinding into 2nd and cant find 5th. I am still hoping for a miracle adjustment rather than major synchro/gear issues. My question is how to install the new ball cup and spring. I read the tech article and am still lost after removing the four bolts and unable to free the shifter? Then how is the linkage adjusted when you have the Wevo rather than stock linkage? Any thoughts, thanks

You should check the ball cup bushing at the bottom of the shift lever and the round bushing which the rod goes through just behind it. You must remove the 4 bolts and also the two 10 mm bolts at the rear of the mount. Those bolts hold the bracket which the rod goes through and may or may not have the remains of a bushing.

Did you ever get your emblem placement figured out? Are you a rower also?

No, I haven't figured out the emblem placement yet. I called a local body shop I have used for other cars in the past and they claim they can get in contact with porsche and get exact specs at a cost of $250 to install front crest and rear letters.
Rower?

Thanks for the replies (I didn't remove the two smaller bolts!)

Attached are a couple rough shots of the hood emblem placement. I used a very thin tape which hooked over the leading edge of the hood. Looks like it is very much 7-15/16" to center of holes. I tried a center-to-center measurement, but if you've got an emblem you can also get a good c-to-c measurement.

Concept 2 is the Porsche of ergometers (rowing machine). Thought it might be an homage to that.
