Trim removal question 1967
Trying like mad to remove the chrome molding at the bottom of the rear quarter glass opening on my 1967 swb. This bit runs along the bottom of the window opening below the tilt out window. Its attached to the body.
I see the one super small screw at the leading edge, and I see some sort of attachment based on the screw tips peaking out from below within the wheel well. Do these strips just slide off? Am I missing something? ![]() ![]() |

short of instructions from the factory service manual, here are details from the parts book showing how the moulding strip is secured in place

There are 5 pins soldered to the bottom of the trim strip. They penetrate into the fender well and have speed nuts (#29 on the diagram) on them. Remove the wheel and clean up the undercoat/rust/mud from each and attempt to remove from below. Can be very difficult and it is easy to break off the pins. Sometimes you can carefully pry from above using a wide blade putty knife. Can be done but easy to bend the trim piece and the pins may also break. Later cars appear to use screws (#32) from above instead of pins and could be a replacement alternative for broken pins.

You two (Jim & Rick) are hero's today. This is just what I needed. Let me say THANK YOU for all the times that people may not have thanked you for your help.
Its much appreciated. I will get the wheels off and work with it as instructed then report back. |

If you are lucky the speed nuts will be metric hex (8mm?) and they can be removed with a socket wrench. Use a spray lubricant like Liquid Wrench or similar first.
