Question mirror swap 912e need help

Do I need to drill new holes to change 912e outside mirror to SC "flag" type. I hate holes...it's like painting your car and then taking the hole saw to the fender for the antenna...and I didn't want to start if I need welding and filling until paint next year to add newer mirrors. Thanks for brains. steve

Steve,

The PO of my 912E failed to have the above mentioned re-inforcement plate installed. Overtime, with what appears as
several attempts to tighten the mirror, I now have a crater size hole in the door skin. I finally fabricated an interim solution (huge steel washer contoured to mimick the door profile). Only recently was I made aware of the factory upgrade kit/reinforcement bar.

I was planning to post this request on the 911 section, however since this topic is active, here goes....

Does anyone know the correct Factory part number for the part previously described?

Personally, I would have preferred that he (PO) left the original chrome unit on. I recently found a source for a chrome passenger side mirror...

Good Luck, and thanks in advance to anyone with the part number...

Bob
