ongoing saga 912 and ME

Rebuilt fuel pump and tried to start eng with no success checked and I had a filter on the suction side but it was reversed so the incoming fuel went to the inside of the element. No good because I couldnt see the tablespoon of cork type material in the element or 2" up the line. Its a wonder it ran at all.
I purchased a strainer for the suction line and a filter for the discharge line to carbs, everything flowing smoothly now.
Also removed clock that wasnt working and cleaned it out and relubed, it started purring like as kitten no soldering of the fuseable link as I expected.
Took the car out for its first 50 miler in 20 years yesterday, after 4 years of restoration, and it performed great, very tight. Will try for the 100 miler on the forth.
Thanks everyone for the advice and inspiration its always funner when your not alone. See ya on the road Mike
