JonBek '66 912 thread
![]() Just going to put a flag in this piece of virtual real estate and call it my 912 thread. My wife and I bought the car a little over a month ago. It came with 15x6 Fuchs and an "oh wow that's a pervasive gasoline smell." The Fuchs are now in the closet and the gas leak? No big deal, just a fuel sending unit with no gasket—at least a cheap fix. The car is a built in '65 1966 912 three gauge no sunroof model which was originally ivory white, and then at some point blue, and now red. It's seen better days, and definitely worse ones. My wife and are going to drive it, repair it, build it, and be sure to give it a good home. So far we've bled the brakes and cleaned the air filters, added the aformentioned gasket, bought the proper jack pad, replaced some missing badges and swapped the wheels. Going to start refreshing the engine in the next few weeks and working on a custom headliner refresh. I'll be sure to post some pics of the process. |

Hi Jon,
Welcome here on the PP board. Your 912 might need some work, but at least you and your wife can enjoy driving it and that is where these cars are made for! I hope the previous paint jobs where combined with some proper body work and rust damage was not just covered with filler. If done well, I wouldn't care about the three layers of paint. You've bled the brake system. Does it have the original single circuit or is the brake system upgraded to the much safer dual circuit? And what abiut the interior? Apart from the headliner, does it need work? Yes, we would like to see more pics, as well from its current state as the progress you make. Need any help or just an opinion? Just let us know. Otto |

Nice car. What's the chassis number? My painted-dash light ivory '65 is 451326 with a solid engine mount and "snorkel" air cleaners.
Which engine mount and air cleaners does yours have? Frank |

My wife and I yarded the original headliner out this past weekend. It was torn, rotten and frankly pretty gross. I'm opting not to put a new headliner in for the time being. We repainted the interior and we've got some beautiful fabric being delivered later this week. the idea being to create something different. I'll post photos when done.

Also this week I won an auction on eBay for killer set of classic rally stopwatches. I plan on installing these in place of the head unit the previous owner had installed and getting rid of the stereo completely.
