050 Distributor Timing
Hi guys,
I’m new here and am helping a friend @rossheff with his 912. The car came with a 009 which was replaced with a 050 (009 with a 050 advance curve) however when we’ve come to time it up the results are really confusing. When we time the distributor at 3000rpm to 30 deg the car wont run correctly and is misfiring. The point at which the car runs correctly is roughly 30deg at idle (900rpm) which means the advance is around 60deg at 300rpm! Any thoughts why the timing seems to be offset by 30deg? Cheers guys, Mark |

Are you certain you’re timing off of #1 cyl? Bill |

The 050 requires either that the plug wires be rotated 90 degrees, or the No 1 wire (all actually) are 90 degrees out of sync from other distributers. I think it is clockwise, but it has been a few years. My 050 sits in a box with 1500 miles on it, because the 022 and 031 distributors are soOOOOO much better!
