timing
very simple problem, but I want to make sure it's accomplished properly...in adjusting the timing-the timing light i have has a (-) and (+) connection as well as a clamp...i know one goes on to the #1 ignition wire and one is most likely grounded, but then the third?...i don't have the instructions with the timing light and i want to start the adjustment with the engine cold, in other words turning the engine by hand until i see the spark (or light) near tdc and then adjusting the distributor...any suggestions, links, help would, as always, be greatly appreciated-THANKS!

Dale,
As you stated the large clamp with the wire slot in it clamps on #1 spark plug wire. The black or ground wire clamps to any good ground, I use a bolt in my engine compartment that's connected to the frame. The red or positive side can be clamp to any 12 volt source with the key on, some use the coil terminal as the heat source, I use a hot terminal / screw with wires, near my voltage regulator. If you have a multi-tester check for your hot lead with the key in the on position. Good luck Chas. |
