I was told by the mechanic that rebuilt my solex carbs. on my 912 that I need a preheat hose for them to work properly. I no longer have the heater boxes but do have the piece around the j pipe at the end by the flywheel. There's also an attachment for a hose on the right side engine compartment toward the back. Would that be a good place to connect my preheat hose? Thanks.

Without heater boxes I am not 100% sure. Can you add a duct to a manifold?

Greg,
You don't give any additional info (what year, photo, where do you live) regarding the engine, but basically you do not need the carb preheating for your Solex or any other carb. Only if you are living in a cold climate with the risk of icing your carbs, or if you want to use the 912 during winters tours in Alaska, the preheating is usefull. In a mild climate they have no sense. The early 912's have engine temp controlled preheating system that closes the heat supply to the carbs as soon is the engine has reached operating temps. If you want/need to use the preheating you can use the heat from the heat exchanger around the J-pipe as you suggested. The basic tubing on the engine tin to the carbs should be present then. For more details I really need more info regarding the engine. Otto |

Obviously, If you no longer have the need of heater boxes. Then there will be no need for the preheating of the Carburetors.

Jaems,
You are right. I sometimes make things too complex. Otto |
