Help with Front end clunk when setting

Here is what I have, Grab the top of the front wheel and shake the car and you hear a thump, I put in new wheel bearings, new a-arm bushings and new koni struts and still here it, if you jack up one wheel and then let it down to load the suspension it will not make the thump, It sounded like a loose wheel bearing at first but the wheels are fine when jacked up and checked. Can struts make a slight clunk? I did check the lower ball joints when putting in the new bushings and they felt ok by hand, Going down the road everything if tite, there is no noise from anything. Any Ideas? Craig 69

I am by no means anykind of front end expert but could it be comming from your front stabilizer bar or its linkage. I know on my 69 it is connected to the a-arms. Could it be a loose battery banging around? How about a loose headlight bucket? When the wheels are down you probably can't shake it as much as when they are up. Any bad rust or cracks around the a-arm nuts welded to the pan? Just trying to be helpful. Thanks, Ron D

i went through the entire susp on my '68 which included the installation of poly a-arm bushings. sent it to the shop for alignment and cornerbalance. drove the car for a few days and kept hearing/feeling "clunk" from front end. turns out the a-arm bushings were binding and needed to be removed and shaved. are there any "restrictions" in the up-down movement on your front end? bob
