Missing 3rd gear?

So I was able to toodle around the neighborhood in my newly aquired 67 and I could not seem to ever find third gear. While stopped the car seemingly goes into all the gears, while driving it appears to dump back into first gear. Im able to grab 1st, second and 4th gears.

Adjustment issue?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

MattR

I will assume this is only a 4 speed? Any chance you have a 5 speed and aren't catching first over to the left and down? I find it hard to believe it would jump back into first gear if it is a five speed. Never driven a 4 speed before so I can't comment that one.

Correct. It's a 4 speed.

It seems to gate correctly when I'm sitting still, but I beleive its dumping back into 1st instead of 3rd. 4th works fine, but seems hard to find.

There is a nylon cup that the gear shift goes into. This cup does wear out and needs to be replaced. When worn out it will make the finding of some gears very sloppy and hard to find. This might be your problem.
