Tachometer and Temperature gauge connection

Hello,

I need to connect the tach and temp gauge to my engine (ENGINE NOT IN THE CAR).

I wasn't sure which terminals to connect it to.

Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks,
Bao

Behind the distributor there you will find two sending units. I believe the one that threads in horizontal is the light, and the vertical thread in unit is the sweep of the gauge. I have a 50% chance of being correct on those...

The tach you can run off of the coil wires. Real old school.

Engine looks great

Thanks Michael,

So, for the tach run a wire from coil (hot side).. to what terminal from the rear of the tach? and, which terminal from back of the tach is ground?

As for the two sending units, the vertical is oil pressure and the horizontal is temperature sensor..i'm very sure. Again, which terminal on the back of the temp gauge goes to the sensors?

Engine was rebuilt, carb was redone by Harry Bieker..

#1 on the tach goes to #1 on the distributor side of the coil. In your picture would be the Black wire side of the Distributor.

The oil temp is the brass one behind the distributor with the black/green wire the oil pressure is the red/green wire.

Thank you,

Where is #1 on the Tach? The bottom section has 3 terminals.. one of this? and how about ground on the tach?

Temp gauge on the back .. which terminal is for which wire?

Thanks, Bao

In your tach pic the ground is far right (should be a - there somewhere) and the wire from coil is 2nd from right (should be a 1 there).
Your temp/fuel is different than my '66 gauge so can't help there.

Thanks Jim,

Got it now, right in front of me... the furthest one to the right is - and one next to that is #1, the one all the way to the left is +12.. so, the #1 from tach goes to the hot from ign coil (yellow wire from pic.) and - from tach is grounded to ..say transmission.. correct?

I will just take a shot at the temp gauge and see it will go.

Bao

I think 1 is the other coil wire, the one which goes to the distributor.

Not certain, but the two spade terminals at the top feed the temp gauge. One may need 12v and the other(ground) would be from the sender.

Great! i will run the 1 from tach to the ign coil that goes to distributor.

One of the top 2 spade is 12v and the other is to the oil sender.. is 50/50.
if i get it wrong.. can it damaged the temp. gauge? If not, I just try it both side.

Thanks again

Oil sender pressure goes to one of the light bulb (green) receivers as it is "idiot" light only. Again, not certain but I think the oil temp gauge needs 12v power. The sender is a ground and goes to the G terminal on the gauge.

If you hook it to the hot side (yellow wire) of the coil it will probably burn your tach out.

You might want to get yourself a wiring diagram. If you are going to work on your own car. If you have a 69 912. You will need a 69 911 one for the fuse boxes, besides one for a 912. However, the gauges look like they belong to a 68.

The long horizontal one with the brass is the oil temp. The one right behind the distributor is the oil pressure. The one spade is for the oil pressure idiot light only. The two spaded one is for the idiot light and the other is for the actual oil pressure readout gauge. if you had one, which you don't.
