Cool Window regulator??

Howdy all,

I'm hopeing someone can give me a little guidance on the removal of the window regulator from a 1966's door. Please tell me I don't have to remove the chrome frame and it comes out through the door panel....I have it stripped down to that point, but don't want to go further without clarification. It popped off a rivet or pin on the gear rack.If I can get it out I can fix it

Thanks for any clues! Steve

I took one out with out removing the door frame, It's been a while, But I know I did it, If I rember right you have the window up in the door frame and remove the bolts and remove the track off the bottom rail of the window,You might have to turn the crank to shorten the width of the regulator to get it out of the hole in the door I have herd that they can be repaired, depending on what is wrong with it, What side are you working on? I have a right hand side, all ready sold the left,

I took my window regulator out of the passenger's side door of my '66 '12 a few months ago...it was tricky as hell, but can be done. I did it pretty much like Gregk describes.....an extra pair of hands helps alot.

My problem was that one of the teeth was broken so that the window stops rolling up at about 1 inch from the top. My problem is that I didn't bother getting it fixed, I just put it back...now I have to take the sucker out again!

By the way, Stoddard's will rebuild them. But I don't know how much that might cost.

Okey Dokey my compadres Yes, it can be done You can remove a window regulator without disturbing the window or frame I found the problem,as suspected,it popped out the pin just behind the gear rack.Poor thing was toast, needless to say Buuuuuut, with a little help from my handy dandy mill and lathe,Zowie ,New part ,But the big clock spring that attaches to it had already fallen inside the door ,so I have no clear referance as to the proper way it was on the regulator.I could guess, but would rather just do it once,Soooooooo, does anyone have a pic of an assembled regulator, particularly a view from the spring side?? I would be most grateful
