Lighting help needed
My 66 912 is in the final stages of restoring and has some lighting issues. Right blinker works but not with the flasher. No interior lights, no license plate lights, no brake lights, no trunk lights. Blinkers work, parking lights work.
Checked the fuse block and there is no voltage on fuse 5&6 or 8-12. I worked back from the schematic but all is connected correctly. Any ideas on something to check?

Also, no headlights. I checked for continuity for the fuses and all is well there. I believe there is a wire missing on the K tab of the light switch.

Let there be Light!!
Did you replace the fuse box?
Or pull it to clean / paint under it? They are very brittle. |

It was not replaced, but it was moved to clean under it. There aren't any visible cracks in it. I wonder if there is a power or ground line that came loose. I'm not sure why there is no power on the top fuses even with the ignition and the light switch on.

Update: I checked all fuses and they are ok. I pulled the interior light above the door and got voltage at the bulb and the bulb read continuity but there must be an issue with grounding it to the body because it won't light up. Next I will pull the trunk lights and check the same.

You might check to make sure that the bulbs are exactly correct for the car... had a similar problem as yours and it turned out that the bulbs were not exactly correct. check the Porsche books for the proper bulbs... bob

Very important that all grounds are clean and shiny (and tight)!
The rivets on the fuse boxes are not great conductors after 49 years. gently manipulate the fuse contacts to be closer together for a snugger fit. Sometimes the wiring harness in the rear of the car gets brittle from heat and the wires break inside. Usually where the wires are closest to any engine/exhaust heat or where they can bend or flex. |

Update: The headlights came on after I pulled the trunk light out and checked the wiring. The headlights went out when I tried the brights. The trunk lights never came on. The headliner lights came on when I began to pull them loose telling me the fixture has a bad connection to the body. There is a ground issue somewhere. I cleaned the fuse box and all the fuse holders. Gently. Next I will clean the back of the fuse box with an electronic cleaner (with the battery disconnected). I am still not sure what the deal is with the license plate or the trunk lights. It's probably a grounding issue.

I got the lights back! Cleaning the back and the fuses was the trick. Still not getting the brights, but I'll research it. Thanks all for your help!

i'm in st pete putting my 912 back together. simmialr issues. I found most of the problems originated in the fuse box. even thou it looked good it had light corrosion on the wires leading in or out or around fuses and created a lot of problems. careful cleaning fixed almost all my issues
also luggage lights will only come on when the parking lights or headlights come on with hood open. 69 and later that was changed to any time the hood was open. |
